Yes, I agree with you. Newt has proven himself to be less than an honorable man on more than one occasion. Clinton's offense was not about sex. But the fact is he was also a womanizer is just more proof of his questionable character. I can't figure out why Kennedy keeps getting elected over and over again. Character DOES matter, and by pretending that it doesn't is really helping to weaken our country.

I have a personal opinion that both men have had family lives I would not want to emulate.
I also believe that perjury and obstruction of justice is a serious offense, no matter what is being lied about.
It's not the Republicans who are spinning - it is the Democrats. To say that the Clinton case was "just about sex" is to either be totally ignorant of the law or - worse - to willfully ignore it.
Liberals like to compare Republicans to fascists. What does the definition of fascism have to say about disregarding the law, twisting the truth and constantly indoctrinating the public with a deliberate lie about the law, and whipping up a lynch mob against one's political enemies by using those lies?
The complaints about Gingrich are doubly hypocritical, given that many of the same people who are spinning the lie that the Clinton case was "just about sex" are saying that Scooter Libby was tried for outing Plame. BOTH cases were about lying to the investigators, and nothing else! If people really want to keep up these arguments, it shows me how otherwise bankrupt (or unpopular) their political ideology must be.
PS What's the matter with religion? Why are people allergic to it? Should we repeal the Martin Luther King holiday, and the civil rights laws he championed? Segregationists DID say that we shouldn't "legislate morality." I get riled when I have my coffee!

As a tabloid item, Newt indiscretion doesn't rise to the level of Bill's for a number of reasons that others will bring up. I'm sure many conservatives are unhappy with this turn of events, although this has been apparently been an open secret for quite a while.
I don't think it seriously affects his ability to be elected president., or even to win the nomination, since his chances were zero to start with.

of course
Truly, Clinton's misbehavior was deplorable on many levels, but as much as it was disgusting.I really did not want to hear about it. I was constantly embarrassed for my country for 8 years when he was President.
Newt is in the same boat, except for the perjury part.
but I had to pick between the 2 of them for President I would definitely choose Newt.
Maybe we should ask them to resign but I 'm not sure it can be forced.

ALL elected officials should be above reproach. We're partly to blame for electing them and we seem to show our approval of their misdeeds by re-electing them and for not holding them to a higher standard. We should demand more of them, and we should also hold them accountable for their actions. That's why they repeatedly betray public trust, because WE allow it by re-electing them instead of demanding their resignation or by impeaching them ALL.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I also blame them AND the religious leaders that steal, lie and have affairs or molest children and live in oppulance with the fortunes they make from the gullible public Both political and religious leaders are the main cause of our nations moral decay, they are a bad example to our youth and WE allow it... so, WE share some of the blame.

Its just Newt was so sanctimonious and pious, and an attack dog, of the Republican Party for years, that, his newest confession makes his personal behavior seem so hypocritical. His wife, Marianne Ginther, once said Newt should not be President. That was when she was married to the guy!

Yes, I understand that. It is wrong to paint all people with the same brush. People are individuals and make individual decisions.
