What town or what kind of setting? I read the book so long ago I can't remember.

You might have some luck exploring at this author's website. There is a reading guide for the book...and a few other goodies. I read it in 2004, but I can't remember where it was set either. I don't remember it being set in a big, urban setting. I sort've remember it being just generically set in an "average" town/city that is supposed to represent an any average, American city. But again, that's based on a two-year old memory.
