My major is journalism so I would like the program to be related to anything in journalism, writing or film-making.

This is a great idea and you should be able to do it without any problem.

First, I would suggest you decide what part ofthe US you want to visit. My suggestions would be New York or Boston, or San Francisco. Each of these cities has severals chools you could attend. They are close to a lot of other places to see and you could do lots of tourism type stuff.

There is no point in trying to get into a really fancy elite school, since you are not trying for a degree. In Boston there is University of Massachusetts at Boston, or you could go 30 miles outside the city to Salem State in Salem MA in an interesting small city, or to Rhode Island College in Providence RI about 50 miles south of Boston.... in New York there are several public schools in the city and in San Francisco there is San Francisco State and Univ of California - Berkeley. Those schools are all respectable, but among the least expensive. And if you can afford the higher tutition there are plenty of private universities such as Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern, Fordham, NYU, etc. You need to sign on to a university that can giv e you a dormitory room because renting an apartment for the summer would be difficult and expensive.

You could go to somewhere in the southern USA but it is very hot in Washington DC, Atlanta, Los Angeles, etc in the summer.

Check out their websites. Pretty soon they should have the summer schedule of courses posted and you can check which school has the exact thing you want. Write directly to the admissions dept of the school on their website and they will tell you exactly how to go about getting admitted, and also, give you some VISA advice. You need to start right away working on getting your USA visa as some students have had problems with this in the recent past

Have Fun! Good luck!

There are some schools in the US that are among the best in the world in those fields, and which do offer short summer courses. New York University, for example, offers a summer intensive in filmmaking, with a variety of courses offered in month-long chunks. They also offer classes that last all summer. Check out the links, below.

Schools that you can look into include:

-New York University (writing and film)
-Sarah Lawrence College (for writing or film, especially strong in writing)
-University of California, Los Angeles (for film)
-Vancouver Film (for film - and it's in Canada)
-University of Southern California (film)
-Kenyon College (writing)
-Digipen (animation - very, very strong program)

Two that are slightly less famous, but still very reputable:

-Hofstra (writing)
-Academy of Art University (film)

And one that has not such a great reputation:

-New York Film Academy (no where near as reputable as the others I've listed, but very popular for its short, intensive film programs)

Depending on the number of hours you attend class per week, you may or may not need a student visa. Check the page I've linked, below (the final link) for details.
