REM sleep occurs every 90 - 100 minutes, 3 to 4 times a night, and lasts longer as the night progresses. The final REM period may last as long as 45 minutes. Less vivid dreams occur at other times during the night.

The amount of times dreams last vary depending on if it is your first sleep cycle of the night or a later one. Dreaming also only takes place during the REM cycle. There are 5 stages to the sleep cycle - and this takes approximately 90 minutes to complete. About 5% of the 90 minutes is spent in stage 1, 50% in stage 2, 20% in stage 3/4, and 25% in the REM stage. The cycles repeat ~4-6 times a night. Age also makes a difference in how quickly you slip into a REM stage and how long you stay there............

Time is irrelevant in the dream state. A moment can be an hour. An hour, a moment.
If you enjoy dreams I recommend the prescription drug "Seroquel" in combination with copious amounts of cannabis just before bed time.
For more chaotic dreams and nightmares a stimulant could also be used.
For ideal results bath & eat before hand. I play enya at low volume whilst I dream.
Supposedly the entire after life is only nine minutes of abnormal dream state following the last stroke of the heart.

You dream while you are in your REM cycle (REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement). Each dream only lasts for a few seconds, meaning the electrical signals that your brain releases that tells you that you are dreaming only lasts a few seconds, but your mind takes the signals and mentally spreads them out so that it seems like the dream is longer.

From which perspective?
From what I have determined, the amount of real-time spent immersed in the Dreamscape is rather short... between 5 and 30 minutes at a time maybe.
On the other hand, within the Dreamscape itself time is essentially irrelevant. I have dreamed for 24 years within the space of a single real-time hour before, and I am (for the record) only 23 years of age in real-time.

As long as the REM cycle that you are in whilst dreaming ( though it may seem to last the entire time you are asleep) which can only be determined in a sleep laboratory
