More than likely, they were part of the unbelievers who went to try to conquer the Anakim or the "giants" of the land after they disobeyed the Lord who tried to tell them not to because of their disbelief and the rest spent 40 years in the wilderness and only their children and children's children would wnter the Promised Land except Joshua, son of Nun and Caleb, son of Jephunneh.

They wandered with everyone else for the 40 years required. God's purpose was that those who believed the false report instead of trusting in His promises would die out, and the new generation take the land. IIRC, only Joshua and Caleb survived. Theory is that children under 13 at the time of the spies also survived, so that most of the Israelite community that entered the land was 53 or less.
