Nutty Girl is amost right. "progress", however, is not really "Vorsprung" in German, but rather "Fortschritt". "Vorsprung" is more something like "advantage" or "head start".

A free translation would be" "technologically leading by a country mile"

Dear Camilla

Nutty Girl's answer is the best translation. Progress through Technology is the Audi company's strapline and part of its mission statement.

Vorsprung - "vor" gives us the English "fore" as in "forward". "sprung" from "springen", "to jump, leap". Therefore, "leaping forward".

Durch - related to English "through" - means "through, by means of".

Technik - "Technology".
