I can't believe what I read on here sometimes.
I don't think you understand exactly what you get for your money!!
Worldwide radio, news, internet, television and all commercial free. Going commercial will not pay for all this. Why do you think so many channels now do these late night premium rate phone quizzes? The beeb do a great job and if all you watch is top gear and dragons den or 'stenders, maybe you should throw your telly out the window anyway.
BBC has the best educational content out of EVERY TV media provider going, its documentaries are way ahead of the rest, etc. etc.
And if it NEVER shows big brother, its worth twice the cost!

I think you are absolutely right, it IS a rip off and we shouldnt have to pay it.
But, there again, I love it when I'm watching BBC because I am not forced to watch the adverts which I HATE with a vengence. There are only so many cups of tea and trips to the loo you can make during an evening with commercial tv.

considering it was initially to cover BBC costs and now we have sky/freeview were we get channel BBC4/BBC3 and so on ALL having adverts on then yes it is a rip off and I want to know what we are paying for now.
Friend of mine has never brought one she has television but only watched DVD's and Video's told them they could come round any time with their detector van and she got away with it. lol
To be honest I pay monthly it seems to be cheaper that way and also we do have televisions in every bedroom so one licence covers all would not be happy if it did not though so I suppose it is good like that.
The BBC do have a better class of programmes and NO adverts or rip of phone quizes that we know of I add quickly.

I agree. It's way too much, and it's not like they put anything good on, except for Top Gear and Dragon's Den. There are also far too many repeats for my liking. There should be something under The Sale of Goods Act 1979 that we could get them on, like the product not being fit for purpose, i.e. not fit for watching! We should set up a petition like the car owners did, and submit it to the Director General of the BBC!

Are you sure you really want to know ??????????????.
I have had a licence since goodness knows when,I never watch BBC, and yet we still have to pay this rediculous amount of money for programme's we do not watch,WHEN in the UK are we going to stand up and say NO, enough is enough .
I would join the EIE club (enough is enough) and I expect there are other people who think the same.

What other country has to pay for a licence to watch the television.
We should revolt. The BBC is rubbish anyway.

It's a strange way of generating income, that's for sure, but the license fee is worth it for the range of global services the BBC provides, in particular the bbc.co.uk website, which I believe is consistently one of the best information and general media websites in the world.
