Buffy actually died on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Series. But with Angel & Buffy's past he was informed by her friends that she had died. But I'm sure you already know that Buffy comes back to life on her series. And on the Angel series he will be told that she is alive. I hope this helps you.

Uh, Buffy didn't die in Angel. Cordelia died after giving birth to Jasmine, the demon who would be queen of the world, and Fred was turned into a Higher Power Demon that tried to help Angel at the end, but Buffy never died on Angel. I know. I watch it every morning before I leave for work.

Buffy died on her own show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, when she dove into a rift between our world and a parallel dimension to seal it with her blood - the blood that she shared with her sister Dawn. She sacrificed herself so that Dawn wouldn't have to do it. Angel found out about it on his show, but after Willow, Tara, Xander, and Anya raised Buffy from the dead, he found out about that as well. And as far as we know, Buffy is still alive. It's Angel who might not have survived his final episode. But I think we can all agree that he's tough enough to have survived!
