I own both a xbox360 and a PS3 and by far the better box is... both of them :)
Seriously though, you will be happy with either one you buy. Both are solid products with big money behind them. The PS3 is arguably more advanced than the 360 but it is still too early to tell if this technical difference will make an end difference in the games. Sometimes technology *sounds* better but you can't tell the difference as an end user. This may be the case with the PS3. I am not certain, but my gut feel is that the PS3 will be some noticable amount better than the XBOX360 in processing power but it is up to you to decide if the the difference is all that important to you based on the games you are going to play. For example, if you are playing Minesweeper on a super-fast PC or a regular PC, does it really matter that one PC is "better" than the other? Also, developers take time to develop video games that stress the technology. The next batch of games out for the 360 should be stressing the hardware but I think the best of the ps3 is yet to come; it is just too new and the really great games that take advantage of the hardware are not released yet (UT 2007 anyone??)
With that said, here are some things to think about:
1. If you own an xbox or ps2, the new console is (almost always) able to play the old games, so you can leverage your old game investment if you stick with the same brand.
2. Look at the titles coming out in the next 12 months. Pick the console that has the titles that most interest you. IMHO, the Xbox has always catered toward more adult gamers than the Sony console, with sony emhasizing more kid games, but this may be changing with the new product lines, I am not sure.
3. Hating Microsoft is a fine reason to avoid the xbox360. I have never like M$oft as a company and like them even less now. If I could do it over, I would not have a 360 on principle alone. I say that but my 360 certainly kicks, so...
4. The quality of both products seems about the same: very good. I have not had any significant quality issues with either console. I have had my 360 for a year and my PS3 since Decemeber and both run great.
5. My 360 was easier to network than my PS3, has a simpler interface and is easier to manage my online account but the PS3 has a neat feature that allows system "owners" to create limited accounts that allow others, like kids or friends, limited access to the Sony online store.
Hope this helps!

Well if blue ray is the future then ps3 makes wicked smart sense, but if you wanna play good games before christmas ,then 360 makes sense . 95 percent of the tittles will eventually be on both systems as far as graphics the differene between 1080 i or p is tiny ,For memory and multimedia ps3 in the long run ,360 is now! I have the same question as you. Do I want Halo ar God of War. My answer is to simply wait and see it's not that the money is a issue soley. It's ,who's gonna be better down the road. For now my ps2 will more then get me through to late fall ,so i can make a better informed decision. Plus by fall more used games and acessories will be available and some new game prices should have dropped by then . Don't expect anyone to lower console prices until after christmas. But if i had to choose right now it would be Ps3. Only because I already have a Ps2

Buy the 360. 360 plays some of the best games out there. (Including Gears of War or Halo 3, which is highly anticipated). You can also download awesome oldschool Atari games like Paperboy or Joust. 360 can play DVD's just like PS3. The games and accessories are much cheaper than a PS3. Overall the 360 is one pretty cool piece of work. Hope that helps.

if you want a system for gaming, buy a 360.....if you get into the technical specs for both, the 360 for gaming is well beyond the ps3.....i'm not saying that the ps3 is not a great system, it will deliver a great experience but the 360 is the better choice

we'll all agree to disagree. But what everybody failed to mention was the video live marketplace on the xbox. Having just been launched in the US and of course us europeans have to wait is the HD content you can download. In US you can already download films and tv shows in HD and just recently i downloaded a free episode of South Park in HD and it looked amazing. So what is the point of HD DVD or BLUERAY anyway. i'll just rent the films in HD content instead. Microsoft are looking to bring tv through its online service so watch out Sky and Apple. Also games on 360 are wicked with no real graphical difference beween the two.
360 for me!!!

Think about the games that were released on Xbox and PS2, and the one going to be released on XBox 360 and PS3, use that to decide. If you're going to hate the games on one console, then there's no use getting it.

Personally I would get the PS3 because it is built for the future whereas the XBOX is mostly yesterday's technology. The PS3 is miles ahead in its processing power. Also Sony has a very solid reputation for supporting its games boxes. The other firm is well known for it's 'kill the old product and sell them something new that's incompatible' policy.

ps3 is the best. has blue ray disk and great graphics. 360 is just boring and looks like it is made out of plastic material. but the 360 is cheaper but spend a little more on a better system
