How do you learn? They just have minds like sponges at that age, but I'm guessing the same as the rest of us!

Each one is different! I know having had three very different children. Some hear - its enough for them, others see, others like to feel or act out - more hands on physical activities. Schools try to incorporate many different types of learning for each subject so that all 'types' of children end up knowing what they need to know.

Initially, language - speaking and listening are the most important, then pen craft, letter formation, number work - in simple form, then addition etc. From the time kids start school in Foundation Stage (Reception to you and me!) they are taugh reading, through letter sounds, common words, sounding out etc. At some point along the way it all seems to click!

Anybody who can answer this question is a genius. The minds of children, as indeed the minds of adults, are as incomprehensible now as they were millennia ago. Adults try to teach children by imposing upon them a set of beliefs and experiences that they find (to their surprise) children reject. Another school of thought allow children to learn in their own way with limited amounts of success.
There is no one way that children can learn or be taught only a combination of trial and error. Adults must facilitate learning and minimise risks.

children learn in a variety of ways. For a deeper understanding see theorists such as Piaget, Vygotsky and Brunner. They all have very interesting views and opinions on how children learn and how they gain the skills to do so. All children are individuals and grow and develop in their own personal way, however, generally there are 'norms' of development and to look at the theorists named above compared to these norms is quite interesting.
