Before panicking about electrics, get yourself some rubber & nylon lubricant (try Halfords) and spray into the window channels where it slides up & down. What you describe is typical of a window struggling against friction. When it does that the anti-trap mechanism often thinks it's being blocked & lowers the window again.

i have a Astra (n reg) i have sometimes have the same problem as you. the passenger window goes up then comes back down. only happens when I'm doing the driver window up. think it's a problem with the buttons shorting out. if the windows juddering then it could be the window motor. could be on it's way out. you can pick these up form most scrap yards.
i know this isn't much help.
Good luck

I agree with Colin M above. It could be that your window is not freely running smoothly up and down... and so is confusing your electrical system.
I would lower the window and spray a little silicone grease which has a tube you can put in the nozzle for directional purposes (not wd40) and spray some down the length of runner. Try not to get any spray of it on the paintwork.

It sounds like a faulty switch or poor wire connection. I doubt you can repair the switch I would dismantle it and check it out but these jobs are not straight forward. You should seek the help of a automotive electrician.

Probably the motor gone.. to save money at the garage strip the door back yourself to expose the working (lol or not working) parts..be careful.. you have to put it back remember... but this will save you the hour or so the garage will charge for doing this fairly simple process

its broken.
you need to take it to a garage for them to check the electrics, beware this can be expensive as it does mean stripping parts of the car down to get to the wiring,
