1)The earth receives energy from the sun, shortwave radiation
2) The earth emits longwave radiation back to space
3) Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide form a barrier to prevent longwave radiation leaving the earth out to space.
4) The longwave radiation is then sent back to earth, warming the planet's atmosphere.

Humans are releasing a lot of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, helping to trap this longwave radiation in our atmosphere.

Think of a clear night, then a cloudy night. The cloudy night is actually warmer than the clear night. This is because the clouds also can act as a barrier, preventing longwave raditaion from leaving Earth. Greenhouse gases (and clouds) can be thought of as insulation, keeping the planet warm.

There is a book out by Seth Shulman called "Undermining Science, Suppression and Distortion in the Bush Administration" that tells about how Bush forced the EPA to delete details about the rapid rate the earth is warming up to keep it from the public. People that don't believe in global warming, are always stating that the earth warmed up a long time ago, as if that disproves it. Actually that's stupid logic that just proves that humans aren't the only thing that can cause global warming. If Gore and most scientists are so wrong, why don't they present evidence to prove it?

We release carbon dioxide (and other gases) into the air by driving cars (and some other things). These gases go up into the atmosphere. The sun's heat comes in but the gases trap it in and it warms up the earth (called the greenhouse effect because it works like a green house). I do not think that it is humans doing it though (driving cars etc.) because global warming has happened before humans were here. It's just natural. But some people say it is natural but humans are making it warm up faster. I still dont think that it is humans. But you can think what you would like.

Global warming is the observed increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation. Models referenced by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predict that global temperatures are likely to increase by 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) between 1990 and 2100.[1]

The average increase in the earth's temperature due to changes in the earth's atmosphere like deforestation, depletion of the ozone layer etc. is called global warming.

Global Warming, in my own words, is the melting of the polar caps due to the depletion of the layer of the ozone layer due to pyroplastic substances that are burnt bec. they can't be decomposed. The ultraviolet rays are getting stronger w/c means the temperature will rise until eventually, we will burn to death.

it's a science question for scientists to resolve. Science presents facts and analysis as to what it all means, governments decide on appropriate policy in response. You don't decide on football plays or strategies by taking polls from fans and advice from sports talkshow hosts. Leave it to the lifetime professionals.

A piece of 'tabloid science' that's intended (among other things) to make Al ('I invented the internet') Gore almost as wealthy as Bill Gates. He's heavily invested in a venture capital operation that intends to invest in 3'rd world countries (which would *not* be bound by the Kyoto Conventions) and would make a sh|tload and a half of money when these countries are able to compete with the US and all of the other other 'industrialized' countries on a totally unleveled playing field.

The biggest scam since The Next Ice Age (1970).

Same causes (human pollution)

Opposite effects

Newsweek published suggestions from scientists about darkening the ice caps with soot to absorb heat and encourage melting.
