Punk rock actually started in the US in the mid 70s but it really exploded in Britain in 1977. Musically it was bands taking it back to basics...no long guitar solos, no drum solos, no flashy outfits, no light shows. Just high energy rock and roll with (usually) short songs and playing two or three chords. It was reaction against 'art rock', progressive rock and glam that was popular at the time. Malcolm McClaren saw what was going on in NYC and took the idea back to the UK. He eventually became the manager for the Sex Pistols and the punk scene exploded in the UK, while in America it remained an underground scene. I remember hearing bands like The Misfits, The Bad Brains, Black Flag, Circle Jerks and The Dead Kennedys only on college radio.

pUnK RoCk was unstructured and free from any musical "rules". It was strong and passionate and wild. Listen to some classic Sex Pistols and you'll understand. What a time it was!!! Watch this video of a live performance: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qj4nYKVK044 I ran into John Liddle (Johnny Rotten) in Amsterdam a few years back at the Four Seasons there. He's still trying to keep the flame somewhat. Some old punks never die.

oftentimes the rhythm (speedy, in many situations), downstroked guitar (does not extremely prepare for each thing), according to risk a bright guitar sound, and roots that're greater in rock n roll than the greater..theatric? (think of Queen, specific, stuff like that) areas of Rock. Lyrically, a large form of punk seems to be like approximately insurrection against in spite of, yet this does not carry authentic for each thing. I advise, the Ramones weren't extremely ordinary around rebellious lyrics, yet they seem to be a seminal punk band. Oh, and the vocals in many situations are not extremely singing, so as that separates it from another song it is likewise (oftentimes) greater convenient sounding than steel, quicker/with a much better potential point than not undemanding Rock (each and every so often..), in many situations does not contain rapping like Rap-Rock.. much less production, too, many of the time. Or a minimum of it somewhat is not made as glaring. It additionally has a tendency in direction of a repetitive riff and straightforward refrain. Er..to be honest, each and every so often it somewhat is complicated to assert. and of path there are various bands which soundwise will possibly not be usual punk, yet which had this way of huge result on the form that they get thrown in there. return of the Jackyl, it somewhat is why the qualifier "oftentimes" is there. and how do you clarify non-punk bands that have an identical approach?
