How do you properly hold a Guitar Hero controller?

Depending on if you're left or right handed, you hold it like a real guitar.
If you're right handed, you hold the guitar with the buttons in your left hand.

If you're lefthanded, you hold the guitar the other way round, and tell the options to switch the handedness to lefthanded.
This way, the fret notes on the bar will come at you reversed.
