There is no problem with taking the standard release form rather than the mr form. It could be argued the standard release form actually leads to better diabetes control in many people. Just spread your doses out with meals.

I am in UK is this another name for Glucophage ? = metformin?

If so the MR preparation is a bit of an unnecessary addition. Rather than give medical advantage it is more a ploy by the pharmaceutical company to preserve it's patent.

There are a tiny number of patients who tolerate the Modified Release tablet and don't tolerate the standard drug.
