I believe in alien life. I think we would be very naive to think we are the only planet with living creatures on it in the whole universe. If it can happen here why can't it happen elsewhere? Who is to say that outside of our universe there isn't another universe exactly the same, or even within our own universe I firmly believe that there are other planets with life on them.

Here and now, only few people have witnessed or studied it. That doesn't mean aliens never existed, don't, or never will. After all a lot of people believe in God and he doesn't show up very often, does He ? People used to believe in Fairies and Demons in the Middle Ages for instance, but nowadays their existence is not taken for granted. The way we describe aliens changes too from little green men (1940s) to taller greys (1970s) with or without space suit, with antennas on the head or not. There may well be lots of different "species" and civilisations with different life spans and time they may establish contact, or visit.
I've never seen a space alien but I've never seen a microbe with my own eyes either but we know that there are microbs now which we didn't some time ago. So I wouldn't be surprised if alien life existed.

Regardless of the controversial nature of the article you linked, for many of us it is not so much a matter of not believing the existence of life beyond our planet.

I, personally, believe extraterrestrial life to be more probable than not. I don't believe we have found any evidence of any and I don't think it likely that we will in our own solar system. If we do the best chances will be on certain moons around Jupiter but probably nothing like what exists on Earth and so incredibly very much unlikely to be intelligent or even anything beyond any sort of microbial equivalent.

I also do not believe it likely that we will make contact with any intelligent species beyond our planet in our lifetime, if ever. The distances between solar systems is prohibitively great. As cool as it would be to travel to other solar systems and find other life forms it's just not worth the outrageous cost even if we, or they, ever have the technology necessary and understanding of the sciences and phenomena involved. If if such travel is actually possible at all.

There is not enough tabgible evidence to support the theory, even all of the so-called encounters can be put down to metal illnesses, people playing off the concept of articles or movies they read and convince themselevs that because of a strange event, they must have also gone through an encounter.

The entire field of astronomy is still new to us that there isn't any way to know a plausible way of cutting across th galaxy in small jumps is possible. Even terms such as 'wormholes' and 'hyperspace' are basically new in our language.

From the article, I still don't believe intelligent life that can visit us will exist that we can ever meet face-to-face, but forms of life like plants or bacteria, almost a certainty, because the Earth was planted by them after a comet impact.

I believe that there might be several cultures in this universe except of us. But I don't believe that they have visited the earth. If aliens come to this earth, the result won't be much different than the movie War of the Worlds. Remember, the ones who are able to come here from such a distance must be far advaned than us and we are not able to fight those technically advanced cultures. Again battle-field will be earth which would cost us dearly. Think, do you behave properly with ants, worms, insects, animals, etc., then why would they care about you ?

I don't dispute that alien life may exist, but this story does not really provide concrete evidence. This article is nearly six years old and all the evidence collected between then and now is not conclusive.

I am well aware of the conflicting results obtained by the Viking Landers, and I hope that future missions will confirm the initial findings.

For the same reason that some people don't believe men landed on the moon. A closed mind is exactly that, something that doesn't have the capacity to reason beyond the circumference of it's own cranium, even when the probabilities for the evidence exist just outside of it.

The Universe, for as unimaginably HUGE as it is, MUST harbor life elsewhere beyond this infinitesimally small spec that we call Earth.

I often wonder if people don't believe as it questions the little world they're comfortable with. In other words, its not a black and white world we live in any more.
I believe in alien life - I think the Universe must be rife with it. How do you know that they aren't little grey or green men though?
I haven't read the article yet, chances are its one I've read before anyway....but I'm going to read it when I've a little more time. Did I just answer my own question? will I find out how you know they aren't grey or green when I read that article?
Seriously, did you know that sighting differ from country to country as to what they witness?

Some do not believe because it will kill their religion. Some just do not agree with the stats. Probability of another planet right distance from the sun, right chemicals on the planet, right atmosphere, right conditions to start life.
I do not believe aliens have come to earth. But I do think that there is life outside of this planet.

I do believe in life existence in outer space, look at it this way, the earth's temperature suits us, but the scientists said that the other planets are far too hot or cold for life to exist, and if the aliens think about it the same way? and say that earth isn't suitable for them? i firmly believe in possible life existence in outer space, even that i never saw any UFOs or aliens
