That gives England a good chance to make it next round isn't it (against New Zealand)- clever planning.

Is there any reason you put the difficult teams in one group. Honest answers plz? Thanks.

what I don't like is the 8 traditional teams always have an incentive to WALK OVER into the next round - to make the event more competitive, it has to change - they should have this fear of elimination right in the beginning

All the eight teams will go in next round even England and Newzealand will be in next round, and then play 6 matches vs the rest 6 teams. so that England never play with Newzealand in next round. clever or not

Two groups from each round go through, so both England and New Zealand should go through. Points from the first round go through to the next. New Zealand is ranked 3rd in the ODI world rankings ( http://www.icc-cricket.com/icc/faq/odi_faq.html ) above India and Sri Lanka, England is 7th. It is a better system than say the football world cup IMO, as each team plays each other in the 2nd round, gives every team a fair chance.

All the top 8 Nations have almost equal chance to reach last 8 though Bangladesh,Kenya or Zimbabwe are capable some surprises as happened during 1999 and 2003

There are 2 minnows in every group,so all the top 8
teams Aus,SL,RSA,Pak,WI,Ind,NZ,Eng will easily
reach the super 8s(anything can happen in cricket)

Also,England-NZ will be a tough match
All league matches involving Test teams are going to
be well fought,IND-SL, PAK-WI,RSA-AUS,ENG-NZ

May be they did this to have interesting matches

By this way only the top 8 Tests teams can reach the Super eights.THE OTHER 8 teams can reach
only by playing very well in their league matches

Otherwise the minnows would have had a sure place in
the super eights
Also having weak teams in the semis, like Kenya
in the 2003 WC,is something the ICC wants to avoid

The minnows will have to play consistently to reach the
semis

Why are you excited about the English playing the Black Caps? Stephen Flemings side is by far better than Micheal Vaughn's!
