I don't actually believe it, but after the Shilpa Shetty issue there was a hue and cry about racism in UK. I'm not talking about Indians only but also to other asians and blacks. Newspapers were giving reports about non-whites being tortured and teased. They said that non-white students were beaten up whites in colleges, etc, etc. And the new immigration laws seem to confirm that.

Is UK really intolerent?

Don't blow up if your british. I'm only telling what I read in the news

I think there is intolerance in some places, for example some working class cities in the north of England where there is high unemployment and a large number of Indians. Also if you go to rural areas, you often find that even middle class and educated people are racist. They won't go round firebombing you but they will say things like 'the new people at the shop are Indian, but they're ever so nice.' They're sort of aware that they should not be racist but they just don't meet enough non-white people to be able to see other races as anything but different.

Also many people will not realise or appreciate the difference between an Indian, a Pakistani and say, a Sri Lankan. You would all be bundled in together.

In a metropolitan area, especially somewhere in the south, in middle class areas and where there are lots of students, there are not many non-white people, but those there are are treated equally. I've never come across racism at university or at work. I'm white but in my circles there's a mix of all races and everyone gets on really well, race is not an issue at all.

However, Indian friends have told me that they have had more trouble recently because people assume they are Muslim and then assume that if they are Muslim they must support terrorists! This trouble tends to come from people on the street, uneducated people like Jade Goody.

what it is now is British are fed up with constant immigrants coming taking jobs and benefits etc. if you look at resent numbers you'll find more whites are being harassed by immigrants (blacks Asians etc) BUT nothing gets done about it BECAUSE THEY ARE WHITE SO ITS NOT RACISM! to me racism is b0110cks there's no such thing its an excuse for people to get away with every thing and any thing. tell me is it not racist for a black man to call a white man white trash? hhhmm i think it is and why should the British put up with immigrants writing in foot letters all over park walls whites will be whipped out white people die! that's not even half of what i have seen on walls its been worse then that. racism is out of control. and for thoughs who are complaining about British being racist then leave England bugger off. don't come and expect the British to respect you if you dont respect them!

I think there is still racism here, people just keep very quiet about it these days because of the reaction it gets now.

Today, everyone treats everyone poorly. Because they have chosen to walk in darkness. And have no hope for the future.
