As an engineer working in an oily environment i`ve been prone to spots /acne etc for about 12 years. I`ve tried just about every soap and cream going with only limited success using my girlfriends st ives apricot scrub.. About 2 months ago i had a particularly bad cold so got some high dosage vitamin C tablets (833% of RDA) to try from the local Asda store. They did nothing for my cold but my skin cleared up within about 3 days. After 3 weeks of taking the tablets i stopped for a few days and the spots came back. I started again and as if by magic they dissapeared again. Dont know whats going on with me here or whether it will help your friend but its definately worth a try for less than £2

She is certainly NOT going to get any help from on line suggestions. None of the herbal, homeopathic, 'natural remedies' or voodoo, are going to be much use for severe acne.

If she has already been tried on most of the useful oral and topical antibiotics, both alone and in combination, then only one other sensible option is available.

If her disease is causing marking or scarring she may well be suitable to be considered for Roacutane therapy. This does have side effects and can ONLY be prescribed by hospital dermatologists. It would therefore need a referral from her GP.

All I can think of is Accutane. Has she tried it without interfering in the dosage? If she has and has not stuck strictly to the prescrip's regimen, then she needs to give it another chance because it's an excellent medication for acne.
