No... not at all.
Communism is an ideology that seeks to establish a classless, stateless social organization based on common ownership of the means of production. It can be considered a branch of the broader socialist movement.
Many ppl believe communism is the closest economic and social structure to what Jesus had in mind as a utopian society.
A few years ago, some high priest in the Vatican got into major doo doo for saying if Jesus were alive today, he would be a communist...

It's an inherently totalitarian dogma which claims that it will lead to a stateless, classless utopia so long as the serfs slave away and stay mindlessly devoted to the State and don't say boo when the Communists start enslaving, impoverishing, stealing, conquering and committing mass genocide of which the planet had never before seen.
So, yes, it's pure evil. I don't see how anyone with half a brain could argue that a system that directly led to the murder of 100 million human lives is anything but.

Communism is rather known as Historical Materialism. That is the opposite to Idealism os Spiritualism.
For Historical Materialists there is no God, no Spirit, no Life After Death. MArx said "Religion is the Opium of the Masses".
Things must be solved by material means and material conditions are the ones that must be improved.
They believe in the domination of the material circumstance.
They also believe that there is Clash of Social Classes where the Proletary (Workers) must take Power. Workers must rule, represented by the State.
No Private Property is allowed. And the Art must be USEFUL and must dignify the System.
Since the individuality is bound to be suppressed, Liberty is limited or absent.
IF THOSE ARE YOUR BELIEFS, THEN YOU ARE A COMMUNIST.
Make your own mind if it´s Evil or not.

I find that a great deal of people who discuss this subject, can't truly define communism. Comunism in it's purest sense is *intended* to be a form of governemnt where the office simply withers away, and it sustains itself. It doesn't work that way in practice. You get a government in place, allow it to be all-powerful... and it's like 'hey wow. I'm all powerful. I think i'm gonna stick this gig out, and milk it for all i can.' All of the posturing about the heroism of the proletariat for their work, and their importance and their equality is dashed immediately by the preference given to goverment officials. And that same worker? If he works hard, he gains nothing. because the products of his labor go 'to the people'. Is it evil to steal? Is a cat evil because it eats a bird? No, evil cannot be ascribed to a system of government. it's an abstract concept. Evil can only be applied to a sentient being. Those who do harm and intend to do harm with communism, yes, they could be called evil. Those who kill in the name of it, yes, they could be called evil, as could people who do the same things in the name of any other form of government. Is monarchy evil? In and of itself no, but a monarch can be evil. You've asked a three word question much more complex than 'is water wet?'.

It doesn't really matter. Communism is an anachronism in this day and age. China, which is the largest communist society in terms of population certainly doesn't act like one on the world stage. They're buying and selling like capitalists. Watch out for them when they really get the capitalism cranking. They are a real economic threat. Every day millions of metric tons of scrap metal sail of to China, to return as finished goods. Meanwhile, shortages of scrap have driven metals prices sky high in the US.
Russia, though it clings to the communist ethos, is in economic ruins, full of greed and corruption. Cuba, is an economic disaster.
Many people confuse communism, an economic system, with totalitarianism, a political system. Although throughout the history of communism, it has been tied to totalitarian regimes, it is not the same thing.

Communism is not evil because it is a system of government and economy. The abolition of religion makes it evil to many because most people believe in a God.

No, allot of people think communism is synonymous with fascism even though most fascists throughout history have been opposed to communism, thats why communism has a bad image.

Absolutely Evil
What else do you call an ideology that has killed over 100 million people?
In October 1917, the Bolshevik Revolution -- the murderous Russian coup-d'etat -- birthed the deadliest mass killing force ever visited upon the human race: Communism. In less than 100 years, Communism has claimed more than 100 million lives. Today, it continues to enslave one-fifth of the world's people.
