Suikoden 2, is the best for me, has a deep story, great soundtrack and nice gameplay, try it, but it costs more than $100 for a used version and more than $200 for the unused and unopened one, very rare game, but if you got one try it

I have lots of RPG's that I can't decide which is the best one. The game that got me hooked on RPG's is Chrono Cross for the original Playstation. And my favorite game on my Xbox is Elder Scrolls III Morrowind and I still play it even today. The Next one is Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion which I thought was just as good as Morrowind. And Never Winter Nights and Never Winter Nights 2 is really good too, they are as close to the Elder Scrolls series as you can get. Cool thing about Elder Scrolls and Never Winter Nights is you can either be a hero or a villain. My character is a hero but also a villain at the same time :D

I think it would be Chrono Trigger for the Super Nintendo. It's a definite classic! It has a very deep storyline, multiple sidequests, solid gameplay, and probably one of the best soundtracks for RPG's. A revival of the soundtrack was even made by the Chrono Symphonic Orchestra!

Also, the fun factor of the game offers for long periods of replayability! The multiple endings mean you want to play it again and again. Also, challenging Lavos at the beginning of the game with only Chrono and Marle is a big challenge. Many people love this game. and its really a shame they're not continuing the series...

I'm going to go with Suikoden 2 on the Playstation.

The story has some depth to it, while managing to offer personality to a wide range of characters. As well, the morality in the game involves both a black and white conflict of unquestionable good vs. evil, and shades of grey in terms of what the "correct" path is.

Of course, I'm a fan of character vigniettes in that fashion. As well, there's well over a hundred characters, but only two dozen or so go beyond personality and into any development. It's not really for those who want deep insight with two or three characters developing throughout a game.

In all objectivity, my vote would go to Final Fantasy VII. There's been a before FFVII and an after. The game was masterfully executed, with visuals never seen before, incredible 3D fights - I mean, who doesn't know FFVII? The story was deep and very interesting. The game system was very innovative at the time.

In 2007, one could argue that it has aged a bit. One classic RPG which hasn't, and which is almost just as good, is the SNES Zelda A link to the past.

I would have to say Phantasy Star Episodes 1 & 2 for the Gamecube. Me and my friends bought that game and it is a long game. It allows customization of your character and what he will be (Hunter which is a swordsmen, Ranger which is a gun man, and Force which is a mage). If you play through all the difficulties you reach the hardest and everything changes.

Not exactly one of the "typical" RPGs... But so far, to me it has to be System Shock 2... FPS style, RPG gameplay & talk about a challenge!

Have to admit though, I'm looking forward to Bioshock...

FABLE "the lost chapters." not enough game time but awesome gameplay and story line.

I hope that guns aren't going to ruin fable2, multiplayer might make up for that.
