Could be a few different things when my daughter then 3 months old had those symptoms the doc said that the only over-the -counter meds we could give her was pedialyte cough and cold. Also the blood in her nostrils could be from the suctioning or because the air is too dry, get a warm mist humidifier and see how that works along with the pedialyte. Good Luck

It may be because you can cause more harm than good by sucking out his nose too often...over-doing the suction can actually irritate his nose which will cause it to be more stuffy...have you tried saline soultion? Little noses has some that works really well...do it before you suck out his nose, that should help thin out the mucous...and only do the suction before you put him to sleep...also, try a cool mist humidifier in his room and maybe some baby vicks...also, give him LOTS of fluids...the other cause of blood in the "snot" could be a sinus infection...I know in adults they can clear up on their own, but I'm not sure if that happens in little ones...if he starts to run a fever, or the bleeding continues after you try to cut back on the suction, then I would definitely contact a doctor...also, as for your insurance predicament...don't they help pay bills you have while you weren't covered?? I hope your little guy is feeling better soon!!

What you could do is purchase baby saline nose drops at your local pharmacy in the cold remedy aisle. It thins out the mucous membranes in the baby's nose and is easier to suck out his nose. They also sell baby kits that contain, nail clippers, brush, comb, etc. I believe Safety First makes it and it comes with a nasal aspirator with a clear plastic ball on the end, instead of using the standard ones that are long and skinny. You may be sticking it is his nose to far and scratching his nostril. You can buy the kit for about $10.00, this way it will just go in the tip of his nose. You can also try running a cool mist vaporizer when he sleeps, maybe the air is really dry and causing the blood streaks. Just suck his nose before he takes naps or goes to bed and gently wipe his nose. Good Luck and hope he feels better soon!

Certainly if you are concerned, take him to his pediatric doctor and get him checked out. A pleasant resulting doc visit is better than one resulting with greater concern.

Sometimes, due to children's immune system being underdeveloped, it takes longer for runny/stuffy noses to clear. As a parent/caregiver, check to see if the child has other symptoms/signs other than just the stuffy/runny nose. By observing this, you can better determine if there is a possible underlying cause. Suction of the nose does help but keep in mind it can become irritating and cause dryness. As a result, this can cause very superficial blood vessels to break .

Once again, visit a pediatrician to feel comfort.

Careful with that pump!! Mucous lining of babies' noses is so delicate - it might have got hurt by the pump or by the strong suction. When you use the pump, first you have to put saline drops in the nostril to make the secretions more watery and then you should only put the pump at the opening of the nostril (not deep inside) and suck out only the excessive secretions. Hold the head well so he doesn't get hurt if he moves.

No doctor will deny medical treatment and if it is medicaid, they may back date things, get a move on with getting it back on. A lot of children get blood in there boogies when their nose gets very dry, its normal but you should have your child looked at in case it is more than just a cold.

The air in your home must be really dry. I would take him to the doctor because he could have pnuemonia. 3 weeks is a long time to be sick with a cough especially being only 4 months old, if you have to take him to the er now.
