I live in Germany and go to Austria for skiing about 3 times a year. I see kids in the ski schools there at age 5 and they learn very well and in a very safe enviornment. I recommend starting them between 5 and 7 while they are still able to learn fast and have that "no fear" attitude that only children can have.

I dont ski myself but I would say as young as physically possible kids learn things very quickly as they have no fear, and no pre conditioned ideas about what mite go wrong, therefore they are more willing to let them selves go and pick things up easier. Also they dont have the fear of looking like an idiot if it all goes wrong like adults do.

As young as possible! You see toddlers who can ski expertly.
