They never should really, but probably at least once a day.

Hello,
(ANS) If the computers operating system is correctly installed with all its patches, fixes & updates. With all its programs correctly installed and if the machine is switched on & off carefully. Then the machine shouldnt ever crash or freeze.
**There are many many reasons a machine might crash or freeze, often its because of the way the computer is being used or abused.
**infection by malware, viruses, spyware, adware, internet worm infections, trojen infections.
**The wrong drivers installed, or non digitally signed drivers sometimes cause problems.
**trying to run too many process's all at the same time, cpu tops out at 100% this would freeze a machine definately.
My own machine rarely if ever crashes (win XP Pro) it does sometimes freeze if I'm trying to do too many things at the same time.

In reality it shouldn't crash, just because it crashed it does not mean something is about to break,it could be that your system resources are at there limit and or the page swap file is working overtime because of not enough memory..really it could be a million different things..it could be that there is just a incompatibly issue in there with a driver or a programme that you have just installed..you can go into (error logs) and see what crashed the PC.. the fastest way to do this is START,HELP AND SUPPORT,ERROR REPORTS..it will give you the option to open and view all reports...hope this helps...Steve

Ok, there are a couple ways to STOP your computer from crashing.
1. Don't click stuff maniacally. Processors run on binary, so it can only do one thing at a time (unless you have a dual-core)
2. Make sure your RAM isn't overstressed. press ctrl + alt + del and go to performance and check to make sure the total commit charge isn't above the total commit charge. If it is regularly, buy more RAM or increase your paging file (Another question)
3. Make sure your not infected. Go get an anti-virus, anti-spyware, and a firewall.

Mine has crashed twice in 18 months, once because the graphics card was on its way out. Crashing implies something is wrong with hardware or the registry, if its a regular problem I'd consider a clean install.

If youve got a new computer or a decent one it shouldnt ever crash
if it does it means youve f**ked it somewhere!!!
make sure youve got a very good antivirus (download avg or zone labs) and then run a diagnostic to scan for errors on your hard drive.
Also it may be that something you installed recently isnt working properly so you should either restore your computer to the last good setting or uninstall everything you have put on it from the time it starting crashing

It shouldn't normally. If it does then you need to run some maintenence. Defragmentation, Scandisk, antivirus, antispyware, etc. You need to know what you are doing. How many programs are starting up on startup? Msconfig. Do a control, alt, delete and see what is running after you boot up. It will tell you all the stuff running and if you don't need all those programs running you need to run: msconfig to selectively pick the programs you want running when you start up. You may be running too many programs at once or a program that is a virus, etc.
