I want to start a farm and I saw this thing about these animals but the name of them has completely escaped my mind. They are like camels and lamas. It has long soft hair.
I'd welcome any farming feedback. I'd also like to raise chickens.

Definitely Alpacas. They are excellent for guarding your stock or chickens. Raising chickens is a fairly straight forward affair. They are typically very hardy! A couple of good websites to get you started are http://www.backyardpoultry.com/index.php?page=./board.php
and http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/BRKPoultryPage.html#TOC
I keep Silkys, Geese, Ducks, Turkeys, Guinea Fowl, and Swans. I love them all! But my favourite would have to be my Muscovy ducks! They are such characters! If you have room, consider adding a few to your farm. Good luck!

Alpacas are related to llamas but are not as aggressive and are softer. The two other members of this family are the guanaco and the vicuna which are very rare in North America.

Are you referring to the smaller breed that looks like the Llama? If so, this is an Alpaca. And they are quite expensive.

You may be thinking of an alpaca. It's similar to a llama.
