1.Pitchers have a combined batting average of .170 throughout the history of baseball.
2.It leaves a spot in the order to develop young offensive talent who might not be able to play otherwise because of their lack of defensive prowess.
3.It allows older players who are still able to hit, but not go through the rigors of being an everyday player anymore to still play.
4.More runs are scored in the A.L., so for entertainment purpose it's positive.
5.You don't have to watch pitchers hit
6.Baseball needed change back in the 70's to increase attendence and plus they already have another league whee the pitcher is hitting
Opposition=
1.It goes against the purity of the game and the original rules of being a true 9 on 9 game, it;s just the way the game was supposed to play.
2.There is more strategy involved in a N.L. game, more hit and runs, sacrifices, substitutions, bunts, steals, and movement and flow and not waiting for 3 run homers.
3.Depending on how you view it, there are less runs scored and that is good to many people.
4.Managers play a more crucial role.
I'm sure I am missing things buts those are the basic arguements

Someone like Mike Hampton wouldn't agree with the pitchers cant hit thing, but in the AL, yes run production is up. It allowed Jason Giambi to play everyday, and it does give career longevity.(Raphael Palmiero for example) But in the AL, you don't see the #8 hitter being walked to get to the pitcher. You don't see the sac bunt or the double switch. With the DH a pitcher can brushback a hitter without fear of retaliation. This is why there are more hit batters in the AL. There are reasons for and against a DH, but until both leagues have the same rule, the debate will go on.

Simply put...Pitchers can't hit for S#!t You get the occasional home run but for the most part, pitchers that are good enough to make it to the Majors don't spend a whole lot of time on their hitting game.
The positives are that you can have someone like David Ortiz or Barry Bonds (if he was in the AL) hit for say, Wakefield or in the Tigers case...Bonderman.
It basically allows a game to have more offensive power and runs. Especially since the DH is usually a power hitter in the clean-up spot.

The positives are that pitchers do not have to be complete baseball players and old men who can't play defense still get to hit.
And the biggest one: Managers don't have to be as smart because they don't have to take into consideration where the pitcher will be hitting when deciding whether to bring in a relief pitcher.
The other positive is that the National League is really the only Major League over the past 30+ years, so I can just ignore the AL.

The DH is a good thing to have as the guy above me said. Young or older players are able to play when they're defense is below that of Jason Giambi.
The less runs that are scored the better, it makes for exciting baseball

First off, pitchers are very bad at hitting these days. If you have a DH, then he's obviously a good hitter and he might help you in clutch hitting situations.
And a disadvantage is well, nothing I can think of.

Alot of pitchers aren't very good at hitting... no offense to them. Also, many times managers don't want a pitcher to wear himself out batting, because then they wouldn't have enough energy to pitch. For pitchers, the time their team is up at bat is a time of rest, a time to take a break for a minute. DHs allow them to sit, and have this break. Otherwise they would have to bat for themselves, they would get tired, fans would get annoyed at the pathetic strikeouts, coaches would get mad that they were losing, and everyone would be mad. lol

putting in a dh is better than having a pitcher hit because pitchers spend their time working on mechanics and not hitting. Plus Dh's spend all there time on hitting and none on fielding.
