That generally works the other way around. Unemployment is only a stopgap for people who have been fired or injured on the job, I believe. You can check with your state's unemployment office, though.

Your questions leave a lot of detail out, but if you were off work and collecting disability payments, the once you are released back to work by the Dr., you must return to work, but if in the meantime while you were out on disability and you were laid off, then yes you can apply for unemployment. That is all I can help with since I don't know all the details.
