I`d like to say first of all, not everyone can breastfeed, and some mothers like having choices..Let`s not bother this women, she`s made her choice to bottle feed her infant. Okay now that I`ve said this, I always liked soy based formulas they help as far as constipation is concerned, I always picked the formulas with iron as iron is very important for the baby`s development. The soonest possible time that would be safe to switch would be when you start introducing cereal. Many of the cereals today have iron in them. That`s around the time I switched to regular formula, and the cereal does have grains in it to help with constipation. When you child gets to be closer to baby food feeding time, baby prunes help too...But I wouldn`t try taking the baby off iron yet. Try giving a little water, after his formula..I hope I helped..

It's too bad you decided not to breastfeed. Breastmilk staves off constipation. Formula makes more volume of poo and it's smellier.
I heard that extra iron can cause constipation, talk to your peditrtian to make sure since i'm not a doctor =) Maybe this brand iron level is too high for your baby. If this is a case, maybe go with an different Enfamil formala with less iron I don't think you need to go outside the brand if your baby's already used to it, just try and different formulation of the brand.
Even so, all formulas are strictly regulated by the government so it's probably okay to switch but you never know how your baby might react with a different brand. I had to supplement my baby when I couldn't produce enough breastmilk. I got free similac, enfamil and nestle cans. I found that similac and enfamil caused alot of gas while Nestle was fine. My poor baby had to suffer because I wasn't smart enough to realize I was brand jumping at the time.

Firstly, I need to say that it is extremely rare for an infant to actually have constipation...however, too much iron can make stools harder to pass than they should be.
Personally, I mostly breastfed my daughter, but did give occasional supplemental feeds of Enfamil Lipil (not lipid) and she got on well with that...never a problem from it...I wouldn't recommend Carnation Good Start...that brand did cause my daughter bowel trouble...not only was it harder to pass, it stunk something horrible! I also tried Similac and she didn't get on with that either.
I don't think I would suddenly change his formula, though...why not just give a small bottle of water now and again to help soften the stool before changing formulas because that could make things worse.

its fine to change formula so long as its not a regular occurance
you said it might cause him to get constipated, so if he hasnt been constipated yet i would just leave him on that milk and deal with the problem when and if it arises, just because its no good for one doesnt mean it will be for the next baby
if your baby does suffer from constipation there are drops that can be added to the bottle called Coloxyl drops which can be boght at a chemist

not too soon to change formulas, but don't change too often. the more you stick with one kind, the better off the baby is.
my first born had to change formulas cause he was allergic to the milk and needed soy. then my second and third born had to change formulas to the low iron cause they were constipated. try the low iron and if it doesn't get better for the baby, talk to your dr.

No. You can switch him. Just watch his stools to be sure everythings "coming out okay." Soy fixes constipation and irritability in 3 days. Breast milk is best. You don't want to pump?
