I enjoy writing, reading as well as political science. However, my parents said that I must not take political science so my second choice will be either journalism or English. The problem is my SAT score is not good in the critical reading (around 460?) and far more worst in writing section (300-350). I've been in Canada for a year and my GPA is 3.80. I got 80 for my English. I am a non-native speaker of English and grammar is my weakness though I can communicate well enough as well as write a good essay (ignoring the grammar). So, what should I do? If my TOEFL score is 95, can they ignore my failure in SAT? Which university suit me?

Well I don't know what they do in Canada but in the US, Community Colleges would be the best schools to attend if you have low SAT scores. Also CSU(California State University) Schools will accept student's who graduated from High School with a min. of 3.0/4.0 with no SAT needed. That's how I went to college...my SAT scores weren't that good but I graduated from HS with a 3.5 g.p.a. and so I was accepted by a CSU. Hope this helped. Good luck with the whole college process.

There's no need to pick a major until you've decided what school to go to - and a lot of colleges don't even offer a journalism major, so that would decide for you. I guess mass communications could be similar. Both of these will require lots of written essays, so if grammar is a problem, that could be a weakness.

And colleges look at more than just your GPA and test scores. Your GPA is very good. Do you do extracurricular activities as well? Or volunteer somewhere? Those help plump up an application nicely.

Don't let your parents tell you what you can and can't do. If you want to take political science then take it, it's your future. Other than that i can't help you because i'm in australia and the rest of it was just gibberish to me. Just make you future your choice. I'm doing a journalism major at the moment, and my tutor told us all that the most important thing is you have to love writing, you have to have pretty good basic skills, but it's the uni's job to help you with the rest of it.
