in a short term competition no but if its a marathon of course we have a slow and quiet rise but our political system is more stable in the long run than china's which is very stable now but if the people get too unhappy and riot for revolution then its like letting a bull in a china shop but for now china leads the way some time in 20-30 years india will have to take the responsiblity responsibly

Well, there are dynamics here. First, will China be able to sustain its current momentum? Will the political will change if the government changes? Is their strategy in partnering a wise decision? Will there be negative external influence or sabotage? The same questions apply to India. Anything is possible. Only time will tell. But i am sure the two are not competing per se.

No. It'll have trouble just catching up with China much less overtaking the same. Why? here the answer I gave to a similar question:

" 1. Your caste system
2. Your politicians who come from among your elites and have little understanding of the people.
3. Your fragmented political system. There's no unity of purpose.
4. Your brain drain (you're losing some of the best people to America and Europe)
5. You are not aware of your true competitors (It's China, not Japan or Singapore) "

Why not we have a Advantage over them in one aspect, Thats English, Now only chinese have realized the value of english and started learning it, But till the time it masters english India will reach greater heights. But only problem for India is Growing population rate. Reports say that by 2020 India will overtake china in Population. But china has effectively controlled population growth by implementing rule that one family should have only one child.

If this is about a military war...that seems unlikely but possible
If such a war takes place it could be the end of the world imagine having 1billion people on one side and another billion on the other fighting it out to end...how catastrophic...HOPE THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN...

In ECONOMICS:

Yes, this can happen but surely China will do what it can to emerge far more successful than what it is now...the competition will be tough...

in terms of military supremacy india can put up a tough fight with its world reknowned skilled soldiers but will b trully able to overtake china a few yrs later.. rite now it lacks in terms of tech.

in terms of economy... due to the democratic society tat india follows n due to its openness , india will over take china in abt 30 yrs approx... ther r a lot of setbacks for economy to boom in a staunch communist regime...

in terms of population its said tat india will overtke around 2029....

lets wait n see wat happens.. but its sure that in next 50 yrs or so india will dominate over china...
india is being favoured over china in many fields by the international community

Both countries are similar in many ways and hope both of them work hand in hand then overtaking each other. No wonder we Asians never learn to work together. Don't you all learnt the lessons by being ruled by the foreigners.

Economically and/or militarily, no on both counts. There is no reason either way to dominate the other. Both will be world economic powerhouses by the next decade, at present trends. Militarily, why? There is no reason or basis for a confrontation.
