Guitar is one of the easiest instruments to learn but one of the hardest to master. The only way that you are going to memorize chords is by repetition. If you stick with it and work hard the rewards are immeasurable.

Happy Practicing! :)

Learning guitar is not that difficult. You just have to learn how to read notes and memorize chords. However, if you want to be a good guitar player, you have to practice everyday. Once you master just reading notes and playing some simple chords, you have to learn barre/power chords, which is a bit difficult as you have to be able to put your index finger to all the strings and be able to play all six strings individually and all at the same time. That actually was the only thing I had difficulty with. I started playing guitar three years ago, but I stopped playing because I didn't have time to practice and I already forgot most of the songs I learned. Guitar is fun to learn especially when you hear songs that play only acoustic and you can just play and sing that song wherever you go with your guitar.

OK, forget all those answers above. No intelligent person memorizes chords. Serious musicians learn music theory and don't have to memoraze anything, they know how chords are made. Tabs are like crutches - good only if your brain can't read real music notation. Again, serious musicians don't use that.
One guy said that guitar is easy to learn (the very basics) but hard to master. OK, true.
It is hard if yoiu have no passion for guitar and music. If you do, no amount of practice and learning will be too much for you. Steve Vai allegedly practiced up to 10 hours a day, and never cried "is guitar hard to learn." If your motivation is to be popular, or something like that, forget it, just give up right now.

I've been playing guitar for about 4 years now. And yes some aspects of it can be hard, but then nothing worthwhile is ever easy right?

Start small, the fact that your doing a class will help you greatly. I've never taken a class but the joy and satisfaction i get from playing my guitar is tantimount only to riding my motorbike! I love it!

Stick with it through the hard parts and the gratification you will recieve will be WELL worth the effort, trust me! Practise every day if only for a short while, having long slender fingers and a bit of rhythm is a big help! And remember playing the guitar should be fun if not a little challenging! If you ever get to a stage where your not enjoying it then maby it's not for you.

Learning guitar is easier than most instruments because of the guitar is flexible insturment because if versility. I think of playing guitar like driving a car. Some hotdog and do pyrotechnics on the guitar, and other just strums and play simple lead lines. The key is feel to the music, and enjoying it. Learn some basic scales, chords, and then you can probadly find your own way of doing things. Guitar is easiet insturment to learn for me. The piano less room for error, and a lot more structured, and guitar is the opposite of that.
