Is your belief system wrapped up in a political party?

Do you consider deleterious remarks about candidates in your party as an attack against you?

Do you HATE the candidates in the other party?

Would you like to see the other party wiped off the face of the earth or their members die?

I don't hate Republicans, Democrats, or Independents. As an American, you have to learn to tolerate opposing views. It's certainly not the same as my religion, and I don't take politics as the Gospel on how to solve personal problems or anything moral. I do enjoy the debates & to share opinions on different issues. It would be boring not to have any opposition, and if we didn't, we wouldn't be a political democracy.

You know this is a very good question. Many people have become so wrapped in politics that it is like a religion. Personally, I just like to know what is going and will voice my opinion every once while (when it's worth voicing). I don't associate myself with a party but if I had to pick, I would be Republican because I am against gay marriage and I think we should just send a bunch of troops to Iraq and get it over with. Also, yeah some politians out there should go to hell!!!

I LOVE politics love it. I think government can be a place to pool our resources and accomplish great things, but that is separate from politics.

I love discourse and analysis and strategy. Politics is the most complex game ever played. Like all games, it's at its best when it is played cleanly and with skill and with a healthy respect for your opponent.

I chose my political party because of my beliefs, not my beliefs because of my political party. A deleterious remark against a candidate I support is fine, so long as it informed, reasoned, and stated with respect.

I don't hate candidates or politicians as a rule. I hate positions and views and actions, but not the person. Unless they're condescending. I can't stand that.

I consider informed debate with people who oppose my views to be a chance to persuade them, and for them to persuade me. I certainly don't want them to die or even to cease being involved in politics. Opposition from people acting in good faith keeps politics honest.

I find it difficult on these Answer pages to actually have informed and reasonable debate. I think people on both sides of the spectrum find it easier just to call the other side names and to pander. I think most people using this don't even know what conservatism or liberalism are and I think most people here just get their opinions from the pundit of their choice and parrot them here.

I've asked two questions, one asking liberals to define conservatism, one asking conservatives to define liberalism. I got eleven responses total. But a question that is clearly slanted against one party or the other will get 20+ responses in the same amount of time. I don't think people on this forum approach debate honestly, but I will keep on trying to do so.

If you let yourself become fanatic you will wish the above mentioned.
A voter should not be fanatic in order to have his mind clear and vote what is the best for his country.
