You're right, there's a whole lot of tounge wagging in this country when it comes to crime.
Personally Im proud of you for volunteering to be a reservist especially in Johannesburg.
If more people act more like you then we would be living in a totally different country. Keep it up.

I think its a well known fact that the South African Police do little more than respond to committed crimes, they in no way actually prevent crime from occurring.
Why should I pay my taxes and become a police reservist where I further risk my life? It is the governments responsibility to provide us with safety and security and if they refuse to do so then why should we not moan and protest?
If we as South Africans do not want to become victims of crime then there are two alternatives - 1) emigrate and 2) I'm wrong there is no number 2.

Hi Motti! Well done to you! I have got to say though, I will not be happy for me or any of my family to do the same. Life is worth nothing in those people's eyes already, and to actually go head on with them like that - no. I think South Africans have got a right to be protected without putting their lives at even more risk.
I am all for "doing something" that is legal, (it won't have to be nice) and can also be done by South Africans living abroad. Because we still care about our country! And will be proudly South African where ever we go. So come on, have a think about what can be done!

Great idea! Becoming a reservist is a perfect start to SELF - SOOTHING with regards to the crime pandemic we find ourselves in, especially since our criminals fear and respect our police force.("Sarcastic Grin")
I, on the other hand have thought of a much easier and ultimately more FULFILLING solution for our own feelings of insecurity about crime. Spend the time and money by applying for a firearm license until you succeed in getting one! You'll sleep better at night knowing that although you have a firearm and don't need it, at least you'll never need a fire arm and not have it!
After all, it's a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT in America to own a licensed gun (if the proper channels are followed), why not here?
Yeeeeeeehaww!!! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Great Idea but ....
Problem is, are anyone allowed to do anything against crime. The police are not allowed to use force on anything. If a criminal endangers your life, you must ask him not to do so, because we are not allowed to shoot you please sir......
There are many places in this country that people offer their services to be a reservist, but till this day did not receive a answer. We the public can't use any force or means of action against crime, because you (the innocent) are the one who land behind bars.
I like to hear what you think about this?

Motti I'd love to... but possession of a gun creates more problems than it decreases. How sure are you that no bumbling fool will volunteer just for the hell of having a gun? And I think I'd be weary of letting my fiance do that coz i'd live in constant fear of wether he was okay or not. What about you planning to get engaged to your darling...? You cant really put her through that, especially when its all bright and new... My biggest fear is losing those I love. I wish I could offer a simpler solution, and yes I am proudly South African...but hope is all I can carry with me, not a loaded gun. but thanks for your volunteer work, its a start, but really scary. Do keep safe... all the best.

i applaud you! for taking a stand and doing something about crime.
but the real problem we are sitting with is the fact that we as a nation can't stand together. we can't unit against something we all feel strongly about.
almost every one in SA are so self absorb in their own lives that they don't give a damn about anyone else.
for example there was a call for all south africans to wear pink today, at my office only two people did. i mean how hard could it have been? we can't even unit for our kids safety and send a message out then how can we expect this country to do anything about crime.
climb out your self absorb lives south africa and start doing something to change the situation in SA for all of us and our children!
this country is worth fighting for !

Hey I think you are on to something. I think we are suffering from a cicle and we need to break the chain. When it comes to crime, the police service fail us, after that the justice department fail us and then the correctional service then fails us. People turn to be scared to be party to crime prevention as you do know that you wil not be protected by the state from the criminals.
It is not that bad. I live in the johannesbug CBD and i have never been mugged there. So people just make themselve fall victim. I mean carry a pepper spray, take self defence classes, but it is not use pointing to the government cos they as hell aint doing nothing about it

whereas xeek prefers to actually waste his time applying for a gun license, he forgets this is the new south africa, where economics is king.
xeek, you and me need to visit a close "associate" of mine, siphiwe, who for a mere R200, and a bottle of martell, will supply you with russia's finest export, the AK47.
all the rigmarole concerning licences, training etc, are a thing of the past with siphiwe, who calls himself a "protection specialist".
so, xeek, you wanna make a difference?
go get yourself an AK, and get all vigilante on the criminals' @sses!
if they can shoot and rape and murder, what's stopping us doing a drive-by in hillbrow and helping the cops get rid of a few drug dealers?
i'm sure our reservist buddy would agree it's a whole lot easier calling for the mortuary van, than it is calling for backup.
besides, are the cops really going to investigate a bullet riddled drug dealers death? the case will probably be closed as "severe lead poisoning" or "extreme suicide".

each and every race is accountable to a pair escalate to the crime hovering in SA ...... what we would desire to constantly to is get measures in place to stay away from it, not blame one yet another. we would desire to constantly re-instate the loss of life penalty, enforce stricter regulations approximately corruption, human beings would desire to serve their finished term for any crime, community service ought to be used as a punishment, yet their would desire to additionally be suited preparation so human beings can learn discipline and recognize for others property and authority, government would desire to provide up changing names and start up becoming jobs, that's what we certainly need to combat poverty .... in the event that they have what they want, human beings won't would desire to teach to crime to make ends meet
