History is not one of my strong points, but I am curious to know whether Venice is a flooded city..??

It is now because it's sinking and the sea is rising, but originally Venice was built on a marshy archipelago. The canals were basically already there, and the swampy land was reinforced by driving logs into it.

The little islands existed since ever, Venice has been built up from people escaping from the mainland cause of wars and invasions.
Slowly it became that powerful city we know, it has never been flooded, it was just a natural defense system.
Problems for seatide are modern, cause tourists come with big ships and some other big ships sail to Marghera, nearby Venice. The sea bottom has been digged, so the natural defense from high tide has been destroyed
