Ask the pharmacist in the chemists shop you buy them from!
I suffer with blocked sinus and have sympathy for your situation. Anti histamines will only help if there is an allergic reaction involved in your sinus block. I do however have a few suggestions which I hope might help if the antihistamines don't:-
1) get some saline (salt solution) and use it to gently wash out your sinuses (basically by pouring it gently in to each nostril or contact me for further details). Look at the colour of anything that comes out - if it is BRIGHT green or yellow (fluorescent like) then go to GP and get antibiotics because this means you got an infection. Any other colour is OK.
Keep doing this ever day even after you have managed to unblock your sinus.
2)steam inhalation with something like menthol crystals (available at most chemists & Boots).
3) anti inflammatory spray - I have a really good one that my GP prescribes for me called Nasonex. (The active ingredient is Mometasone furoate.) This stuff is brilliant and is worth the hassle of going to the Dr. to get the prescription. (It might be worth check with your pharmacist to see if you can get it without a prescription but I suspect only at reduced dosage - mine is 50mg.) This has been a real gem for me and always works, usually within a few minutes!
4) a really good book called sinus survival!
Hope some of this helps.

It's not an antihistimine but there's a steriod nose spray called Nasonex. It's really good for blocked sinuses. I think you can only get it as a prescription from the doctor though. Drink a double wiskey for the drowsy event.

If your blocked sinus is due to a viral illness an antihistamine is unlikely to help. You may get some reduction in symptoms if it is allergic in origin.
The older, more sedative, antihistamines are more potent than the newer less sedative ones.
Chlorpheniramine is the classic, potent, but sedative antihistamine and is available over the counter.

I don't know but if you find out let me know. I've had sinus congestion for over 6 months now. I'm not sick but i'm always congested and it's not allergies. I've tried SEVERAL decongestants over the months but nothing works Good luck though

If you are finding that nothing is working maybe you need to see an ear, nose and throat specialist?
