All the anecdotal evidence points to the fact that Patrick Mercer is not a racist, so for him to make such a statement concerning black officers seems strange. Is this simply a media propoganda exercise to make it appear that David Cameron is a Strong uncompromising leader?

If it is a propaganda exercise, it's gone badly wrong. If I had been thinking about voting Tory, this incident would have just reminded my of the inherent xenophobia of many in the Conservative Party and made me change my mind very very quickly.

Well, what he said isn't at all strange. It is coming from a real man who has lived in the real world. He knows what goes on in the armed forces, much of it is just banter between males. It is one of the ways that they get to know each other, test out each persons weaknesses, vulnerabilities, character etc. If Mercer made a mistake, it was in forgetting that he wasn't in the company of real men, but in the presence Liberal/Lefty wimps who are afraid of straight talking.

He was simply reporting, factually, what goes on. Soldiers have to be tough, perhaps lay their life on the line, and they have to know their comrades like brothers, in order to work effectively together. Your height, weight, hair colour, big nose, skin colour, lack of hair, and a million other things might be the subject of ridicule. If soldiers can't take it they shouldn't be there.

David Cameron is pandering to the 'PC racist police'. He has over reacted and has lost my respect. Those that bang on about 'racism' keep it alive, and, in my view, are the real racists.

I'm not sure that the anecdotal evidence matters that much, what he said was clearly racist and utterly out of order. Sometimes when people aren't thinking I feel they reveal their true colours and I think he did on this occasion.

Normally I find Cameron abhorrent, but on this I think he absolutely has done the right thing. Everyone suspects that the Tory party is over-run with semi-fascist, racist, sexist Eton old boys and I think it was an important statement Cameron made. Well done him but he'll have to do a humongous amount more to win my vote.

So what you're rather asserting is that the Tories are purely like our GOP in that they are approximately a hundred years in the back of the the remainder of civilized society of their questioning. Oh wait, the Tories could be previous to the GOP of their questioning. The GOP and the Bush administration in specific, have an extremely southern plantation state of techniques and coverage shape.

Absolutely- especially having served in the forces I can absolutley attest most black soldiers are lazy gits and cry racism whenever they're disciplined. The only coloureds that work are the Fijians and Gurkhas who are happy to be there- that's why we respect them and they'll go far.
