If what you mean by livelihood is how they make a living, I would have to say that most Japanese work for some type of Company. In some type of office. Most of the men would be considered "salary men". Not a very exciting existence , but it keeps them alive.

If what you mean by livelihood is their form of entertainment, I would have to say drinking and Karaoke. Japanese LOVE to drink. They generally start very young and carry it on till they die. It is the main means through which business connections are made and maintained. Unfortunately, it is a major reason for the term "sexual harassment" entering the Japanese vernacular. Karaoke is a lot of fun, and all ages can enjoy doing it with either family or friends. It is a major form of entertainment for high school kids outside of their school boundaries.

my aunt is a nanny and she is paid more than enough. her boss allows her to work part time on her rest days. not bad!
