I seriously HATE spiders and lately I seem to have quite a few in the house. One particularly huge black one ran across the lounge and gave me a screaming blue fit the other day and I don't want to see another like it inside!!! What can I do seriously to prevent these.

I keep the place clean, the windows have no cracks, the downstairs floors are concrete. Carpets are fitted throughout.

Do those plug-in spider repellant things work?

And please don't tell me arachnids are everywhere etc etc - I know all this, I have the hebee-jebees enough thankyou!!!!

I didn't believe that this worked, but it did. I found a bunch of horse-apples (monkey brains)... those green softball sized fruit-things with the brain-like exterior texture, and put them in all four corners of the basement. Spiders were gone overnight. They started to rot in a few days, so I tossed them. That was 3 years ago, and I still haven't seen a spider.

If you live in a place that has any kind of garden bed around the doors, windows, and well, basically anywhere around your house, then try getting cedar mulch. The cedar scent is a natural spider repellent.

You move some of the stuff out of the way in your house, to give exposure to those cracks you have in your house, to allow thise big creepy crawly furry rough rats to come in. I heard they are abundant in your area at this time of the year. They'll scare those nasty little spiders right off. You also will lose your fear of spiders. Trust me ;)

Have pest control come out to your house to help you with this. Also, crickets are very helpful in killing spiders. I lived in a house where there were always crickets. I hate them, but after I killed most of them, there was an infestation of spiders. Then I wished I wouldn't have killed the crickets! lol

They are getting in though the door cracks. I use to have the same problem. What you need to do is "weatherize" your doors. Basically add that rubber stuff at the bottom of the door. I did it and keeps the nastyness out.
