Gandhi was a brilliant man who gave up a career in law to fight for the freedom of his people.
I don't think I could have done what he did and I greatly admire him for his patriotism and his devotion to his cause.
It should be noted that many of his ideas on civil disobedience came from reading the American writer Henry David Thoreau. Gandhi added his own concept of passive resistance, which was much of the inspiration for Dr. Martin Luther King's movement to secure civil rights for black Americans.
Most Americans don't know that much about Gandhi. He is well worth studying.
I do think highly of Gandhi, who was murdered nearly 60 years ago. And I do respect him as a leader who was able to transcend national considerations.
He can rightly be considered the father of modern India.

Yes, Gandhi's peaceful spirituality astonished me the most and I strive to have that inner peace he displayed to help me counteract all of the negativity I encounter in my world.

He was a loyal countryman, and excellent "politician" (and by that, I mean he was able to change the system). But his personal penchant for giving enemas to teenage girls, and his racist views against black people go far in reminding me that we are all human, with human faults.
So, no, I really don't have a high opinion of him.

I only know OF him. But he was a peaceful man, with strong religious beliefs. He was a very gentle man who stuck to his principals. I also heard he had an affair with Lord Montgomeries wife - but that is a bit of trivia.

Yeah, he did some great things. I respect him because he lived by what he believed and was willing to die for what he believed was right.
