1. You DON'T have to get marreid. LOTS of people do not. There is no law that says you have to.
2. Some people do it for religious reasons. If you are not religious, then it doesn't apply to you. If you are, then you should know already why you should get married. Moving on...
3. That said, there is one really good legal advantage to getting married: you are protected. You hit it on the head when you said "to make things official." All a marriage really involves is creating a legal contract that says you are a couple. By doing this you provide legal protection for yourself and your family. That way, if you break up your significant other can't just pack up everything and leave you without consquences. It is a legal and economic union, and in some circumstances (wills, splitting up, children) it can be very helpful to have that piece of paper.
Regardless, more and more states are passing laws allowing people to settle legal matters through common law arrangements. So the legal need for a marriage is lessening. Basically, it comes down to a matter of preference. No one out there can make you get married, and lots of people don't. It is your perogative. You don't need the paper if you don't want it.

Because it's a way of telling the world that you've chosen this person as your one and only for all eternity, that you will be loyal to her and only her, that she's the most important person in the world, that you will stand by her in the best and worst of times.
By the way you're wording it, it sounds like you just want someone to have sex with on a regular basis. Well, if that's all you want, you don't understand marriage and I doubt you'll ever find anyone to marry you. So it will probably never be a problem for you. Of course, one day, you'll be what we refer to as "the old guy at the club", the guy who's in his 50s or 60s, dyes his hair, trying to pick up girls in the their 20s and the subject of much ridicule, and of course, at the end of the day, they're alone and one day, they die alone.

Some people feel that marriage is a way of promising that you two will be together forever. It's a feeling of security.

Ceremony and tradition are some of the things that separate us form animals. We COULD roam the streets and fornicate indiscriminately or we could do the civilised thing and publicly vow our commitment in front of friends and family and God.
