I am 39 weeks pregnant (due on March 17th) and am completely swollen, uncomfortable, and just plain miserable. I've been having light contractions but, nothing major. I have friends that have told me to eat eggplant parmesan (YUCK!) as it's supposed to cause you to go into labor within 24 hours (???). Then I've had people tell me to try nipple stimulation, however, I've heard this is dangerous. Is this something that I should try or will it pose a risk to my baby? Any info or opinions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Nipple stimulation can induce labor. However, sex is the best. You won't be having it for a while, so you might as well do it a few more times before the baby is born. Even though it's a little awkward at 39 weeks, your partner will probably be thankful as well. Worked for twice for me. Good luck to you. You will be holding your baby before you know it.

There isn't anything wrong with nipple stimulation. Actually, slightly pulling on the nipples will help get them ready for breastfeeding, if that is what you plan to do. Also stimulating the nipples causes the uterus to contract, so that is where you hear that it will start labor. Another labor starter I have heard about is castor oil. Mix a few tablespoons with orange juice and drink it down. My friend swears by this and used it for her last 2 pregnancies. Then again others have used it and got nothing but a bad case of the runs. In any case nipple stimulation does no harm to your baby. Your ready to give birth at any time. Good luck and congrats!

hi, i am also 39 weeks, and due on the 13th of march. I have tried almost evrything to get this lil one shifting but i think unfortunately she has me beat, she'll come out when she wants to and not before :-(. I had very strong contraction last night, but they've stopped.

You could try Clary Sage and Jasmine essential oil, mix it up with some baby oil and massage into your bump, or put five drops in a bath with a tablespoon of milk to stop it sitting on the surface of the water.

I would strongly urge you not to use caster oil, i tried it yesterday and although it did give me contractions, it was not proper labour.

I'm going for a very long walk today in hope that she'll make an apperance, long i've even gone as far as asking her nicely to come out.

Good luck and fingers crossed xx

Nipple stimulation is not dangerous, but it's not very effective either. You have to do it properly and for hours at a time to release enough oxytocin to be effective. Best thing to do is to let nature take its course. Baby will come when it's time.

Eggplant Parmesean? REALLY? Ive never heard of that one before..
If I were you, I would just walk, have me some sex, and try and enjoy the last days of peace and quiet ;)
Those last few weeks of pregnancy are just kind of sucky, just gotta grit your teeth and bear it honey, when you look in to that little tiny face that has put you thru so much uncomfortablness in the past 9 months, and thru labor, it WILL be worth it, I promise :)

walk up and down some stairs or have sex!

once i seen on a show on the discovery health channel that a midwife told someone to try nipple stimulation. i doubt its dangerous then.
