You know those little pictures that are embroidered on the breasts of polo shirts? I've seen them of alligators, anchors, and a couple other different weird things. What are they called again? I know this, I just can't recall the name at the moment.

logo. each store/brand has their own which they use to identify an article of clothing as something they designed. the same goes for the design on the back pocket of jeans

some common ones are

hollister - seagull

abercrombie & fitch - moose

american eagle - eagle

lacoste - alligator

They are called, logos or emblems depending on how the look. They usually also have the clubs name on it and it is to differ between teams.
It is also a symbol of patriotism towards the club.
