All these questions about whether South Africa will be able to host the world cup and how safe it will be are valid and inadvertantly placing pressure on the government to deal with the already way out of control crime issue.

Whether reinforcing the police force by an additional 30 000 officers (or is it now 15 000 - as stated by Selebi) is going to make a difference, I am not certain, as the police are already short of basic equipment, vehicles and an efficient, honest justice system to support them.

And does this money ever get to the people that really need it? We have already seen in the newspapers how money is being "filtered" out from the planning stage to the contracting stage.
And who is going to have to foot the financial deficits after all the obligatories have their piece of pie? The taxpayers?

A lot of South Africans in the tourist industry have begun a culture of making money at whatever risk to others, and this money is usually made from unsuspecting tourists who are not being adequately informed of the dangers of being a tourist in South Africa.
I don´t feel that these are the actions of responsible people - government and tourist industry alike.

Tourists should be warned of the dangers of visiting South Africa and informed on how to take adequate measures to protect themselves during their stay i.e. how to travel, what to carry and wear, what to do in certain situations, and other helpful information about how resident South Africans keep safe.

I believe that South Africa do have the ability to host the world cup but also it could backfire on South Africa and the economy if it is not done pesponsibly.

South africa will successfully host this big event .Hey guys is not for the first time for them to host world cup .They have hosted rugby 95 world cup, athletics world cup 98,cricket world cup 2003 I have never heard of negative reports .Though crime may still be an issue but some people are so envious that an African country will host such an event of this magnitude while their countries have never hosted even a mini tournament. they are many tourists that visit the country on regular basis there why if if is too dangerous.Ithink it will be successful as 2010 .More than 2006.Stay right where you are and see.

I'm confident that its going to be just as successful as Germany 06.

But you cannot deny the fact that South Africa's crime rate is extremely high, and the poverty there just might be overwhelming for some people. In my opinion, fans going there to see WC will have to take a lot more precautions then they did with Germany 06. Since, the 2010 WC will be like a paradise for the robbers and muggers---there will be millions of TOURISTS everywhere. So, fans when they go there must keep their wits above them at all time.

Yes they do..many of the stadiums and the transportation and communication infrastructure is already in place . There is still a lot of work to be done but they should be able to host it without too much difficulty. Besides they hosted the rugby world cup in 1995 so they know how to host tournaments.

I doubt it will be as successful as Germany 2006 cause man did they put on an event.... But I am sure it will be as successful as Japan 2002... If not what does it matter, the Germans will stay in a nice hotel, they will televise all the games and I will be watching them from the comfort of my couch on my Sony Bravia t.v.

just think teams complained about the heat in Germany saying it was too hot to play... imagine how much those teams will whine in South Africa...
