Hi, I recently went for my first scan and expected to be 10 weeks. I had a pregnancy sac that suggested I was only just under 6weeks with no fetal heartbeat and bleeding inside the sac. There was also no obvious 'pole' detected. I have had no bleeding at all vaginally but have been told to expect to miscarry. I am due to go back for a second scan in 2weeks.

I am beside myself with worry and do not know what this could all mean. Is this normal at 6weeks? And what could the bleeding mean?

I was given very little information on what could be the problem and wondered if anyone hads had a similar experience. Are there any experts that have an opinion? My sickness seems to be wearing off, could this mean I've lost the baby?

Please help.

Hi Gemma, I am a nurse. From what you have described, it is a miscarriage. When an embryo is abnormal, its growth will stop. It is how our body is designed to react rather than delivering an abnormal baby at full term.
It also happened to me in May 2005. The gynae had to perform a D & C procedure to remove the embryo in my uterus. 3 out of 4 women miscarry due to unknown factors, with some not even realising it as the symptoms are so faint like missing your period for 1-7 days.
I would like to share my personal experience with you. After I miscarried, I adopted good eating habits and also started exercising. My gynae had advised me to continue taking folic acid and daily supplements before I try conceiving 6 months later. I took his advice but I didn't try till Aug 2006. I am glad to share with you that I am now 29 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy as revealed in amniocentesis and full ultra sound scan. So for now, think positively and look forward to your new pregnancy. Take good care and you may write to me at lady_general71@yahoo.com.

it is so puzzling being in limbo no longer understanding what is going on. i'm a nurse, and that i've got had this ensue nevertheless no longer particularly that previous due. here is what befell with me. I had a biophysical carried out, I layed hooked as much as the fetal visual exhibit unit and grew to become into on united statesfor some hours, have they carried out this? have you ever been spoke of a professional? Did they inform you what the measurements have been popping out as? Like head 26 weeks, abdomen 25.5 weeks ect? you will could supply her the two way. i do no longer think of all and sundry can inform you in the event that they might save her, it does not seem sturdy whether it particularly is achievable. With mine, I had to attend some days formerly the D&E grew to become into scheduled. i grew to become into knocked out, mine did decide for an post-mortem, no longer something conclusive. Mine grew to become into no longer measuring as a great way alongside as he could have, and grew to become into measuring an analogous because of the fact the final checkup. sturdy success, and that i'm so so sorry.

You have lost the baby. I'm so sorry for your loss. The doctor was trying to tell you that you'd lost the baby.

Your body may try to miscarry on its own, or you may need a D&C to clear your uterus.
