Sorry I need to explain further, it may seem like a simple question to you but it has been well over 30 years since I have taken 6th grade math and I am reviewing my foster son's homework. Thanks for all of your help.

This must be a trick question! I for one am not falling for it!

3 X 6 = 18 but this is wrong!

The answer is 3!

3 divided into 6 = 2 and 2 divided into 6 = 3.
There are 3rds thirds in 6!

Try to be more specific.
You want to know the number of 1/3rds in 6 ?
That will be 6/ (1/3) = 6 * 3 = 18.

You got one good answer which gave you the logic for the answer 18 and I gave a good rating to that answer. But then a slightly different reasoning came into my mind and here it is.

In any number we have only 3 thirds, 4 fourths, 5 fifits etc. So we have 3 thirds.
