Levis, leather, war surplus Army jackets or Navy pea coats.
Most of us shopped at the thrift store to look like "Hippies"
Some wore "Mod" styles from Carnaby street but these were expensive and for the rich kids.
Chicks wore peasant blouses and skirts, alot of mini skirts. etc.

Depends on which half of the 60's you're referring to.
At the beginning of the 60's, they wore turtlenecks, slacks and heavy rimmed glasses. (men.)
Women - think Jackie Kennedy. Pencil skirts, pedal pushers, ballerina shoes.
The second half went hippy. Mini skirts (very short - my daughter wanted to know why the girls had no "bottoms" on when we watched a Rolling Stones concert. Much shorter than now. My school skirt had to be 8 inches above my knee or else we were punished. My daughter won't step out of my house in a skirt that short. Think Twiggy. Lots of purple and orange. Flower power. Barefoot. Jeans.
Both men and women were jeans, and the Indian influence in cheesecloth shirts etc was everywhere. T-shirt and jeans were the uniform. This was before the platform shoe era. Shoes had clumpy soles, for both men and women. Boots - knee high boots, especially white ones. Hot pants for women - often with a long coat.

Clothes.
I was born in 1961... my cousin and aunt were teens during that time. My aunt wore a lot of mini-skirts. My cousin had a buzz haircut, and wore trousers and a button-down shirt tucked in.
Now, my uncles were in their 20's and they wore big, burly beards, jeans, shirts, and beads. They lived on a commune with their girlfriends and their girlfriends' ex-boyfriends... and my military family would go over their and have dinner with them while they were all stoned.
So glad I was only a child in the 60's.

funky striped pants(even for guys), plaids, wild flower prints, bell bottoms, flowing caftan style tops or belly-baring cropped blouses for the gals. My older sisters didnt have the nice ceramic hair irons of today.. they used the good old clothing iron to straighten their hair (Yikes) Levi's were big, and the more worn and tattered the jeans, the better, oh yeah and lots of 'patches' on them. Go-go boots! Anything with fringe too. Head bands, minimal make-up, if any for the gals.. maybe a little clear or very light lipgloss.

Ruby is right until about 1964,1965. Once the Rock era took over, with the Beatles and Stones, fashion became a lot more casual for young people.

Many of these answers refer to the Hippie clothes of the very late 60's and early 70's. I was there, then. Girls wore jeans and black slacks. (never to school, girls weren't allowed to wear slacks to school) The seams would be sewn in so that they were "pegged." They looked like the skinny jeans of today. Girls liked to wear their dads oversized white shirts. Full skirts with lots of crinoline slips, white blouses with Peter Pan collars, stretchy "cinch belts."
Shoes, white bucks (suede), girls and guys, penny loafers with bobby sox. Cardigan sweaters buttoned up the back with a scarf and circle pins. Guys wore tee shirts with "Decks" of cigarettes rolled up in their sleeves. (If they were greasers). Preppy guys wore khaki or blue (not denim) pants that had little buckles in the back. Button down shirt collars and varsity sweaters or school jackets. Everyone had plastic glasses frames, girls' wore cat eye styles. Guys had flattops or Elvis style hair combed into DA's or Duck Tails. Girls had pony tails, bangs. Teasing, big hair came later. We looked pretty bad.

In the late 60's: For girls it was hip huggers with flare legs and patches and hot shorts, tight jeans and patches for the guys, back to the girls it was mini skirts, mirco mini skirts, army jackets for both sexes, bandannas for both sexes, mostly the guys wore the cool dark glasses to hide the pot burnt out eyeballs, flip flops for both sexes, tight knitted sweaters for both sexes, skimpy little tops for girls, long hair for both sexes,
large round hoop earrings one on each ear only, beaded chokers, arm bangles and bracelets, long skirts, long dresses, leather, clogs, beaded necklaces, painted faces, peace signs, flowers, Afros, knitted pants, and Levi's, and also barefooting.

never wear any long dress or skirt because of my elevation, it makes you look shorter and fatter.
