and 6/10 Americans cannot name ONE right in the Bill of Rights! When talking stats with the whole population, you gotta realize how many complete and partial idiots there are out there. Just don't don't pick an idiot, make sure you have alot in common, and build a relationship if that's what you want in life. Be careful and good luck!

You don't have to bother at all.

What gets me is how people can talk and complain about the divorce rate, only because it's a matter of record, while all the other relationships that fall apart aren't documented.

What I'm telling you is that half of ALL relationships fall apart; it has absolutely nothing to do with being married.

The REASONS they fall apart are what's significant.

We've been happily married 36 years, and I guarantee you, some of the key elements of a successful relationship - married or otherwise - are:

1) A long list of common interests; things you both enjoy doing TOGETHER as opposed to separate interests and separate groups of friends.

2) A lot of tolerance for each other's differences. As much as you share in common, you're still going to rub one another wrong from time to time. Be mature and deal with it. Separate the small $h!t from the serious stuff.

3) A sense of compromise; so that you can work out your problems with a minimum of emotional trauma. It's marital negotiation.

4) A sense of sympathy and forgiveness. You're both going to screw up on occasion. You need to be able to forgive, forget, and move on with the relationship.

If you lack any one of the above qualities, if you don't have the emotional maturity to live with a person in harmony, you shouldn't consider ANY kind of a relationship.

that is a very good question , i think the thing is , is the hope.. because if your marrige does work it is the most rewarding things for both you , your wife and your kids .. our generation is changing , the system is making it easier for relationships to be ended , and the heartache for both in the situation of breakdown is gradually wearing people down into forgeting about marraige , and opting for more non comitted relationship , based on the financial and emotional breakdowns in relationships. I am a wedding video guy , i see lots of happy wedding days , and although my marraige has fallen to bits , to do what i do , you need to at least wish for some of that magic yourself. because what is the alternative? the stats are bad , but at the end of the day , the successful marraige where you both work together , and succeed into your graceful years is the biggest reward for you and your family , just gotta pick the right one , to be the 4 .. not the 6

Because 4 out of 10 marriages last a lifetime.
You never know... you could be one of the lucky ones.

Marriages should last for life time. Unfortunately in today's modern society, women are financially independent thus would not tolerate nonsense. Divorces or not it should not deter you from getting hitched. Its very much a personal decision.

Marriage is a sacred institution, set up by God. If you aren't married and have sex then you are living in sin and that's not good. Of course if you're an atheist I suppose it doesn't matter to you. It'll still matter to God though.

A good marriage is awesome. A bad marriage is hell. Play the lottery.

maybe you shouldn't but do you honestly want to be alone then don't bother but if some day you want love then don't fear the unknown because none knows how anythings going to end or even start but God himself. Good luck

You don't. You only need to "bother" if you WANT to get a wife, regardless of the statistics.
