There are currently 4 versions of Sim City available for PC, with rumors of a 5th installment in the works. The goal of all three is to zone residential, commercial, and industrial areas and provide infrastructure to all to allow your city to grow as big as you would like. It is important that all zoned areas have electricity and transportation.
Do a little websurfing and you'll find a treasure troves of hints and tips for each version.
