My favorite French writer is of course Albert Camus. I'm sorry I haven't studied French since I think we should appreciate literary works more if we can immerse in that original language, rather than read the translated English versions. One of the reasons is that he encouraged people to be brave to live on by saying, "But in the end one needs more courage to live rather than to kill himself". This is just great to anyone embittered in life and thinking of escapism.

I love Dumas and Camus. The Count Of Monte Cristo and The Stranger are my favorites.

Marcel Pagnol, made me laugh a lot, and cry a lot with his books inspired from his experiences as a kid. Also Marc Levy who writes in french even if his books have been translated a lot lately.

I've only read French poetry and I would say my favorite of the French poets is Robert Desnos.

Guy de Maupassant is my favourite French writer - I am somewhat ashamed to say - I read his stories in English.
