The comps are literally exactly the sam eexcept one has 1gig ram and one has 442mb. I want to switch the rams but nothing else, where would I find the ram in my computer? Also is there anything I should know or is it as simple as pulling them out and plugging them in?

It's extremely simple. The RAM are long rectangular wafers with smaller black chips on them. They should be held into slots on the motherboard with clips on either side. Pressing them down with your fingers should see the RAM pop out.

Make sure to discharge all static before touching the system components by touching a grounded metal object, or even the metal part of the computer casing. This reduces the chance for ESD, which can fry the components.

It's best not to work on carpet. Hard floor or an anti-static mat would be optimal. And yes, it's as simple as just popping it out of one system and popping it into the other. Once you find the RAM in one computer, it will be easy to spot in any other system (save for some laptops and smaller form factor case systems).

Since you said the computers are "literally exactly the sam[e]", I won't mention anything about compatibility. Once the RAM is plugged in and you boot the system, the RAM check on bootup (BIOS Screen) during POST should identify the memory. Nothing else is needed. Good luck.

Modern ram looks like a green ruler about 1 inch by 6 inches long.
There is a notch on the bottom where the gold contacts are so you do not put it in backwards.
To remove the old ram there are little handles on the ends of the slot which push outwards.
This will push up the old ram a little so you can lift it out.
Take the new ram and insert it into the slot and push firmly. The handles at the sides will move in and click into place.
Done.

Turn off your pc, open the case, touch both hands to the metal part of the case, then pull the memory out of the DIMM slots from directly off the motherboard. Ram looks like theyre about the size of a stick of gum. About 4 inches in length by 1 inch tall in height.

Do the same when putting them in the other PC.
